In the latest vintages, they have succeeded at that. Medium bodied and bold, the wine begins with ripe dark-skinned berries, mixed white flowers and Mediterranean spice on the nose. Flavors of stewed black cherry, licorice, plums, tobacco and hints of oak highlight the firm but velvety tannins in the mouth. The wine has staying power and can be shelved for a few years to further develop the fullness of the energized tannins and dense flavors.
